Who we are

About IFSC Bank Guide and why it exists

IFSC Bank Guide (ifsctool.in, formerly IFSCTool.in) is an independent, free utility for verifying Indian bank branch codes, paired with plain-language education about how transactions actually go wrong. It is run by an independent publisher in India, not by a bank, a financial institution or a government body or portal, and it exists because a verification that should take five seconds too often takes fifteen minutes of navigating bank websites — and so most people simply skip it. Guides are written by Ayan Mandal. To report a correction, use the contact page.

In our experience, most avoidable financial loss in India is not caused by sophisticated attacks. It is caused by ordinary people acting on incomplete information under manufactured time pressure, usually in a language that is not the one they think in most comfortably. Those three problems have practical answers: make verification instant, explain the mechanics of fraud rather than only listing warnings, and publish all of it in English, Bengali and Hindi so that comprehension is never the limiting factor.

We deliberately do not ask for registration, we have no account system, and we do not want your account number. The lookup runs in your browser and queries a public branch dataset directly, so your searches are not sent to us. Like every website, ours is served by a web host that keeps a standard access log of page requests; the privacy policy explains what that log contains. Everything on this site is designed around a simple belief: an informed person making an unhurried decision is very hard to defraud, and the purpose of this site is to help you become that person before the money leaves — not to help you write a complaint afterwards.

01

Clarity over persuasion

We explain how something works and let you decide. Nothing here is written to create alarm, and nothing is exaggerated to hold attention.

02

Awareness over anxiety

Fear makes people freeze or act rashly. Understanding makes them steady. We aim for the second, which is why our guidance explains mechanisms rather than reciting rules.

03

Language is never the barrier

Every word on this site is available in English, Bengali and Hindi, and switching is instant. Financial safety should not require reading a second language under pressure.

04

Verify, then act

The tool is built to leave a check visibly incomplete until you have confirmed the branch with the person you are paying, because that is the check people skip.

How we research and check what we publish

Everything on this site is written to be acted on, so it is written carefully. Branch details come from a public dataset built on the Reserve Bank of India’s published branch list, and every rule, deadline and rupee figure in our guides is checked against a primary source — an RBI circular or press release, an NPCI circular, or a Government of India advisory — before it is published.

Each guide carries the month it was last reviewed. Indian payment rules change often: collect-request behaviour on UPI changed in 2025, bank websites moved to the .bank.in domain, and the customer-liability framework changes again on 1 January 2027. When a rule changes, we update the guide and move the review date rather than leaving old advice in place.

We publish no statistics we cannot source, we do not accept payment for editorial coverage, and we correct mistakes quickly and visibly. If you find something wrong — a branch record, a date, a figure — tell us and we will fix it.
